about

LINE_013

Two Locations is the seventh solo full length CD by American composer and sound artist Richard Chartier. The two “locations” on the CD are reworkings of two sound installations exhibited in US art galleries during the past year: “untitled_location” at the Contemporary Museum [ Baltimore, MD ] and “3_components” at Fusebox Gallery [ Washington, DC ].

While Chartier is known for his quiet and subtle works incorporating silence and implied silence, this pair of compositions presents quite audible and apparent constantly shifting sounds. These pieces contain no points of silence. “Location” especially presents a departure for Chartier. During the process of creating these works he moved from outside of Washington, DC to Baltimore, MD. This shift in location can be felt between the two pieces.
