about

LINE_125

Emra Grid returns to LINE with a new series of dark autumnal works, 'threatening omens in the clouds'... even darker than his previous release 'five cycles of through an empty chamber' (LINE_115) one year ago.

The artist writes of his experiences, environment, and path since his previous release:

"If 'five cycles...' is the arrival then 'threatening omens in the clouds' is the escape, from getting sick with covid to being under strict Indonesian lock down to doing everything in my power to find a vaccine to finally finding a vaccine and then moving to Jakarta the capital. This mega city characterized by an array tropical plants fully integrated within a backdrop of huge reflective glass sky scrapers it looks as though I am finally returning to Europe.

But is this album an escape from all of this or was it a reflection? Or was it both. I always use music creation as an escape from reality. But it seems like it was no coincidence that 'threatening omens in the clouds' was markedly more brooding compared to 'five cycles...'

One thing is for sure: the music wrote itself. It all came out naturally. Not only was it not a struggle it was easy. And usually it’s not easy for me to write music."

Aesthetically, the sound of Emra Grid experiments with the relationship between sound and empty space in order to accentuate the connections between phrasing and dynamics. The result is a highly visual synthesis of soundscapes, drones and continuous permutations of bass frequencies, which gradually come together and slowly fall apart.

Producer and multi instrumentalist Emra Grid first appeared with his acclaimed debut EP: 'The Same Face' on Opal Tapes in 2016. Since then he has been releasing a steady yet powerful stream of music that has subtly evolved with every release. His sound infuses murky industrial distortion with a dense harmonic pallet, creating a style both serene and ominous. Emra Grid’s style embodies a constant contrast between suspense and nostalgic warmth. His music ranges from the darkest drone to ambient to the outer limits of sound, always marked with a characteristic quality of personal content.
